ASTP has launched a plan to revitalise an initiative, that was first developed in the year 2000 in collaboration with EUA, EARTO and EIRMA: a Handbook on Responsible Partnering, which was a voluntary approach intended to improve the organisation, management and overall effectiveness of joint research and knowledge transfer activities involving PROs and companies. The context and the ecosystem around us has evolved since then and there are definitely new challenges faced both by industry and academia that have to be captured in new principles for successful collaborations.
The community of practice has identified crucial topics to be addressed by the code such as strategic approach to industry-academia collaboration, skills and culture, incentives, networking and communication and the role of intermediaries and facilitators, among others. The input by the community will serve as a sound basis for the development of the final recommendations by the Commission.
The new Handbook will be a complementary initiative to the new Code of Practice on Industry-Academia Collaboration for Knowledge Valorisation which is being developed by the European Commission through a dedicated community of practice which saw the participation of several ASTP members.
