KT Community Proposes New Measures for Impact in Horizon Europe

The national leaders of Europe’s Knowledge Transfer community under the auspices of ASTP’s National Associations’ Advisory Committee (NAAC) joined representatives from several Directorate-Generals of the European Commission (EC) at its Brussels Headquarters to discuss the Knowledge Economy and its Impact

Hosted by Giancarlo Caratti (pictured above), European Commission, DG JRC, the meeting opened with ASTP President Martin Raditsch (pictured above), explaining the significance of the meeting:

“This audience between ASTP and its NAAC with representatives from the European Commission provides us an opportunity to build a joint vision for the future of innovative collaborations between academia and industry”

At a time when the European Commission is constructing its goals beyond Horizon 2020 towards Horizon Europe, the meeting was a significant opportunity for the EC to hear from the knowledge transfer community of all member states.

During the meeting, an ASTP Working Group presented three recommendations to the European Commission:

  • The introduction of a dedicated work package (WP) to address the impact of Horizon Europe projects and take care of the knowledge transfer, including translation into the innovation phase towards society and the market
  • To ensure the involvement of Knowledge Transfer Offices (KTOs) in the project to lead this WP
  • The assignment of additional budget for this work package

Following an insightful discussion, ASTP’s Vice President for the NAAC, Santiago Romo Urroz said:

“Involvement by KTOs in the development of every research and innovation project funded by the European Commission will be a sign of the new approach of Horizon Europe, much more oriented to implement research results in line with societal needs”
